About this Dataroom
This is part 1 of 2 of the federal gun registry maintained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The data was produced in response to an Access to Information request filed by the Ottawa Citizen in 2007. The Citizen published a series of stories based on this data which you can access here
The data contains about 7 million records of registered firearms. It contains no personal information about the registrant other than the first two characters of his or her postal code. In a small number of records, registrants who built guns from a kit and listed themselves as the manufacturers are named in the data.
As the federal government moves to eliminate the need to register long guns (mostly shotguns and rifles) with C-19, it intends to destroy all records of registered firearms.
I am posting this here to share at least some record of the registry.
If you need clarification about the data, feel free to email me at gmcgregor ATSIGN ottawacitizen.com.
