Great stuff @sgnewson! FYI You could clone @outisthrough's dataset and put up your modified version of the data, so that @outisthrough can check it out, and possibly merge it with his original dataset.
Aye, I thought about that. But it seems a bit excessive to clone an entire project just to contribute a bit of data or tidying. I was trying to find an easier way to contribute back to the original project.
True @sgnewson ... But the main benefit of cloning is that the dataset publisher can see what work you (or anyone else) did with his data, via the "clones" box, and can then easily merge it into his; rather than getting the modified data externally :)
Ok, I'll go with that. Is it possible to merge in a cloned set directly? or would the original owner have to download my file, and upload it again to the original project?
unfortunately, that functionality is not yet available. so yes, he will have to do that.
Any reason for having Cities/Shows as a single column? It makes more sense to me to split them up.
Hi opento, I redid your 311 data to match the Vancouver data. http://buzzdata.com/sgnewson/311-requests-toronto-2010-by-month#!/overview
Now, the biggest roadblock to doing a comparison is that the Toronto and Vancouver data have different categories for requests. I there any chance that the two cities could agree on a common set of categories for this sort of data? Then automated comparisons could easily be done.
I have redone the Toronto 311 data to match the monthly format you have here. See: http://buzzdata.com/sgnewson/311-requests-toronto-2010-by-month
I have split out the cities and shows and added Gross per City and Gross per Show. Feel free to add it in. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1355183/buzz/top%20grossing%20tours.xls
