@chad_skelton just to clarify - you can absolutely drag/drop stuart's dataset on top of your own under the Data tab and it will save both versions under "version history" (to the right of the data grid). if that sounds confusing just ping me and I'll show you :)
Another update: Added demographic data including inmate population, number of employees, the ratio between them, capacity, percentage capacity, and so on. Follow the link at the bottom of the comment above.
I made an app out of this data: http://pushmatrix.github.com/protip-prison/
This is totally awesome!
Wow, so cool.
@daniel Throw it up as a visualization?
Can't wait till you can edit your visualizations.
Could you guys tell me what you mean about attribution and editing? I want to help! AND I CAN.
Hey pete!
For attribution: Edward posted a visualization that I made, except it's posted as "by edward". There's no way to source the author (unless it is part of the url).
For editing: Once a visualization is uploaded, it can't be deleted or edited. Also, the ability to upload a screenshot would be nice. It seems the automatic thumbnail generation is a bit hit and miss right now.
This dataset is funny as hell. I lol'ed.
"Four pounds of raw chicken in a plastic bag."
Reading that, I find myself wishing that my imagination wasn't as good as it is.
"unidentified crab trap"
a) It's a crab trap. It's identified.
b) crab trap??! In prison?
Love it! Too hilarious!
Seems like an abnormal amount of Playstation's and Xbox's being smuggled into prisons? Can these really be used enough before confiscated to justify smuggling them in? Just asking?
I am looking forward to the day someone makes an infographic of this. I bet Sebastien Pierre could probably do wonders with this data ...
@chadskelton you might consider either inviting daniel to collaborate on the dataset (see Admin tab) so he can attach his apps, or you can add people's apps and viz's yourself to this dataset so people can always find them!
Hello. I've processed this version into a number-friendly table. Please see the notes: I've renamed and consolidated some columns. This may save others some time in creating a viz based on the numbers: http://buzzdata.com/stuartathompson/b-c-federal-prison-seizures-2008-2010-breakdown-by-the-numbers#!/data_grid
